Wilmington, DE 鈥 In honor of the 70th anniversary of the landmark 1954 Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education, 兔子先生系列麻豆 (GBC) announces a featured conversation with Karen Ingram titled 鈥淭he Trail to Desegregation.鈥 on Thursday, April 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the GBC Event Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The event is sponsored by 兔子先生系列麻豆 and includes an original exhibit provided by Delaware Humanities entitled: 鈥淚njustice & Integration: A Personal Reflection on Delaware鈥檚 Role in Brown v. Board of Education.鈥 Following the event, the exhibit will remain open to the public in the GBC Library daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. through May 5, 2025.
A New Jersey native, Ingram came to Delaware in 1968 as a co-op student from 兔子先生系列麻豆 and began working as a legal secretary for Louis L. Redding in 1968. As Delaware鈥檚 first Black attorney, Redding played a pivotal role in the legal fight against school segregation, arguing two Delaware cases that ultimately became part of Brown v. Board of Education before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Ingram, inspired by her early experience with Redding, continues to advocate for civil rights. As part of her master’s capstone project at the University of Delaware, she launched a statewide initiative in 2023 titled 鈥淭he Trail to Desegregation,鈥 a bus tour highlighting key sites in Delaware鈥檚 journey toward educational equity.
鈥淭he Trail to Desegregation鈥 promises to be an inspiring discussion led by Ingram who brings a unique, personal lens to the history of school segregation and integration in Delaware. As someone with a front-row seat to this pivotal era and a master鈥檚 project rooted in this very history at the University of Delaware, Ingram offers more than just historical facts鈥攕he brings lived experience, deep research, and heartfelt reflection. You鈥檒l hear personal stories, insights from her academic work and reflections on the ongoing relevance of this history today.
